Deputy Chair: Mfundo Nkuhlu


Mfundo is currently the Managing Director: Corporate Banking in Nedbank Corporate, having previously been the Managing Director: Nedbank Africa, responsible for developing and implementing the bank’s growth strategy in Southern Africa.

Prior to joining Nedbank, he was appointed General Manager: Strategy and Planning in the South African Revenue Service (SARS) in 2004. In that capacity he was responsible for corporate strategy planning, revenue and economic analysis as well as the coordination of international relations. He joined SARS in March 2001 from the Department of Trade and Industry, where he was responsible for the development and coordination of the economic strategy for the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD). He coordinated the technical team set up to support the multi-country Steering Committee set up by the Heads of State.

In his capacity as the Chief Director: Africa Trade Relations, he was responsible for managing trade and economic policy and programmes covering Africa and the Middle East. He led the South African negotiating teams in both the Southern African Customs Union and the Southern African Development Community, and participated in the negotiations for a free trade area with the European Union, as well as the World Trade Organisation.

He has participated in Executive Development Programmes with the University of the Witwatersrand, Gordon Institute of Business Studies and Insead, offered at the Nedbank Training Centre - Olwazini. He has also served on various boards, including the Board on Tariffs and Trade; as a Ministerial Trustee of the South African Wine Industry Trust, and on the boards of Nedbank’s subsidiaries in African countries.
